Here is a picture of hte night that I presented to the town council! I was so nervous, but overcame my fear once I began talking. The council was extremely nice and interested in my project. In the end, they gave me $200 to go toward the breast cancer walk! :)

Town Meeting
Last night (April 28th), I attended the Harrisburg Town Council Meeting to formally receive my check that was presented in honor of my breast cancer walk. As I posted earlier, I spoke at the town council meeting in March concerning my senior project and my ultimate goal for my product! It was a great experience, and I was honored to receive this check!

Raising Money
In order to obtain the greatest success for my project, I have decided to contact businesses in our local community to contribute to my cause. As I have been a Cabarrus County resident my entire life, I have personally had the opportunity to watch our community's compassionate benevolence! I am so excited as I have already raised a good amount of money and hope to continue raising more! Many Harrisburg and Concord businesses have generously donated and I am receiving more phone calls everyday! I spoke at the Harrisburg Town Council Meeting a couple weeks ago concerning my senior project and discussing my hopeful plans! They council members generously agreed to donate $200 dollars from the town of Harrisburg! Now, all that is left to do is simply put out flyers and get ready for the big day (May 1oth)! I hope that it will be a huge success!
My Mentor :)
My mentor is Mrs. Cindy Wise, a breast health specialist at Northeast Medical Hospital in Concord. She is an amazing woman who has helped me tremendously so far! I have met with her on three separate occasions. I have now had the opportunity to actually watch a mammogram, talk to real patients about their early detection process, discuss new upcoming findings in genetic engineering, and learn breast cancer facts and statistics for women of all ages. I have learned so much through my mentor and having a 'hands on' approach by talking to each patient. I have become very passionate about my topic and know that I will be involved with breast cancer awareness for the rest of my life! I do not have a specific date for my next meeting; however, I plan to meet during the last week of April!
Next Step: Product!
Now that my paper is complete, I have began working diligently on my product! I am so excited to begin working full-time on my product! I am conducting a Breast Cancer walk at Frank Liske Park on Saturday, May 10th, at 9:30, for Mrs. Hicks, a Bible teacher at my high school. She was diagnosed with breast cancer last semester and due to finding the disease early, she was able to prevent it from spreading throughout her body. The main focus of my product will be to raise awareness for the necessity of participating in early detection screening methods in order to find the breast cancer early. So, what all have I done so far?
I made brochures that teach basic information regarding breast self-exams, clinical breast exams, mammograms, and MRI's. Most women are unsure of when to begin actively participating in one or all of these areas; therefore, I thought that it would be very helpful to make a guide that I could use leading up to my walk.
I have made flyers that I have began distributing throughout Harrisburg as well. I want as many people to attend as possible! So, if you are free that day, then I would love to have you join us as I try to raise as much money as possible! The cost will be $5 dollars a person and all of the proceeds will be spilt between Mrs. Hicks and women in our area who hesitate to receive a mammogram due to price inconvenience!
Please help me spread the word through our community in order to have a very successful event on May 10th! I am very excited and am becoming more anxious as the day approaches!
